The Application Resource Manager (ARM) provides the generic functionality relevant to all protocols.
The Application Service Element (ASE) provides the application specific functionality. (Ex. File transfer or still image exchange.)
This component is conditional based on whether an application protocol has been specified. It is mandatory for standardized application protocols. It is recommended for non-standard application protocols.
